Lady Antebellum
GRAMMY Award-winning trio Lady Antebellum began a multi-year partnership with UNHCR in 2012. The UN refugee agency is one of five organizations to benefit from the American country music band's charity initiative, LadyAID™ - created to bring awareness to and generate support for children in need, including young refugees in the United States and globally. The trio from Nashville, Tennessee - Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood - chose UNHCR as their primary global partner.
One goal of LadyAID™ is to support UNHCR's work to alleviate the suffering of refugee children and promote youth-centred programming around the world.
Lead vocalist Scott began her international outreach by volunteering to work with children in Haiti. And all three band members, facilitated by partner organizations Children's Miracle Network and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, have met and talked to children receiving life-saving medical treatment. In 2013, Lady Antebellum met with unaccompanied refugee children referred by UNHCR to a foster programme in Houston, Texas.
LadyAID™ will be funded by donations and fund-raising efforts, including the trio's inaugural Ping Pong & Songs event, scheduled to coincide with the Country Music Association Music Festival in June 2013 in Nashville. Inspired by a combination of the band's favorite backstage hobby and their love of songwriting, the event will give fans a chance to play ping pong against the group members.
In 2012, Lady Antebellum completed a headlining tour that was awarded Billboard magazine's "Breakthrough Award" and took them across North America, Europe and Australia. They were watched by more than 1 million fans in 11 countries. The trio has sold over 11 million albums across the globe, won seven Grammys, tallied seven No.1 hits and in 2013 released a fourth studio album, "Golden."
